General Approach

  • Normalizing, Not Pathologizing

    Normalizing, Not Pathologizing

Your symptoms, your present coping, your patterns, you may not like them, but they make a lot of sense. We’ll explore the factors that have shaped them in a way that inspires clarity, not shame.

  • Affirming Therapy

    Truly Affirming

Your unique strengths, challenges and interests will be appreciated. Your care will prioritize inclusivity and authenticity regarding race, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation and neurodiversity.

  • Beyond Talking

    Beyond Talking

Awareness alone hasn’t been enough to shift your most problematic patterns. We’ll need to modulate your emotions and somatic sensations, not just your thoughts. To do that, we’ll create new experiences with yourself and with others.

Specific Interventions

We seamlessly & creatively integrate many interventions including the following:

Trauma-Focused Therapy

What Do We Mean By Trauma?

We specialize in the compassionate treatment of traumatic stress.  This includes Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which relates to single or multiple events (e.g., assault, accidents) or complex trauma or C-PTSD related to chronic exposure to traumatic relationships or environments (e.g., abuse and neglect).

C-PTSD has numerous symptoms including mood alterations, heightened anxiety, difficulty trusting self and others, difficulty modulating energy level, motivation, and emotions, among other considerations. Some may have been helpful adaptations to traumatic situations, which you will come to appreciate. Our work together will address methodically diffusing these symptoms and responses.

What Does Specialized Trauma Treatment Look Like?

We use parts work and EMDR in the context of a comprehensive therapy that unfolds in stages. The first stage explores your current functioning while assisting you in interacting with parts of self, regulating triggers, promoting self-regulation and enhancing general coping. Symptom relief begins in this stage.  The change isn’t instant or miraculous.  You will feel yourself gradually expanding your capacity in session and applying practical solutions outside of it.  You will develop a trusting relationship with your therapist who will be anything but blank and passive.  She will be warm, transparent, flexible, funny, approachable, deeply caring and actively involved. This lays the groundwork for deeper therapeutic work.

The later stages may use EMDR desensitization and reprocessing protocols in tandem with other experiential therapies to repattern trauma, distress and constriction in your nervous system.  We will aim for more than symptom relief.  We will strive to deliver you into a more connected, vibrant and purposeful life.
